What is asphalt?

Asphalt is a durable road surfacing material made by combining carefully graded aggregates, such as crushed stone, sand and gravel, with bitumen, a petroleum-based binder. Once mixed and compacted, asphalt forms a smooth, strong and long-lasting surface suitable for a wide range of applications.

Asphalt is commonly used for roads, highways, car parks, industrial yards, pathways, airports and other transport infrastructure because it offers excellent durability, ride quality and cost-effective long-term performance.

How long does asphalt last?

A professionally constructed asphalt pavement can last 20 to 30 years or more, depending on traffic volumes, pavement design, environmental conditions and ongoing maintenance.

Regular maintenance, such as crack sealing, resurfacing and timely repairs, helps maximise pavement life and reduces the need for costly reconstruction. At ANA Asphalts, we focus on building quality pavements that are designed to provide long-term performance and value.

How long before new asphalt can be driven on?

In most cases, vehicles can drive on newly laid asphalt within 24 hours, although this can vary depending on the asphalt mix, weather conditions and the type of traffic using the pavement.

Heavy vehicles may require a longer curing period to allow the asphalt to achieve its full strength. Our team will always provide project-specific advice on when it's safe to reopen the pavement to traffic.

Can asphalt be laid in wet weather?

Asphalt should generally not be laid during rain or when the pavement surface is excessively wet, as moisture can affect bonding, compaction and the overall quality of the finished surface.

Our team carefully monitors weather conditions and project requirements to ensure asphalt is placed under suitable conditions, delivering the best possible long-term performance for every project.

Do you repair damaged asphalt?

Yes. ANA Asphalts provides a range of asphalt repair and pavement rehabilitation services to restore damaged or deteriorating surfaces.

Depending on the condition of the pavement, repairs may include asphalt patching, crack repairs, resurfacing, pavement rehabilitation or full reconstruction. Our team can assess your pavement and recommend the most cost-effective solution to maximise its service life.
